Valentine’s Day is just around the corner

For those love birds out there, it’s probably time to start thinking about where to take your significant other on a date for that special day. Anyway, have you ever thought about why we celebrate Valentine’s Day? Valentine’s Day is named after Saint Valentine, a catholic priest who lived in Rome in the 3rd Century. Emperor Claudius was a pagan and had Valentine imprisoned for going against his will by marrying soldiers in secret Christian ceremonies. 

While imprisoned, Valentine was known to be the caretaker of his fellow prisoners and his jailor’s blind daughter. Valentine was executed on February 14th, and as a final act of love, he wrote a letter to the blind girl, signing it “From your Valentine.”

Two hundred years later, February 14th was declared St. Valentine’s Day, to honor Valentine. The poet Chaucer is the one responsible for linking Saint Valentine with romantic love. From there, a tradition of courtly love, a ritual of expressing respect and admiration (usually in secret) evolved. It spread throughout Europe and eventually across the world to what we now know as Valentine’s Day. 

We usually dedicate this day to our significant other or our valentine. So, if you have no idea where to take your valentine, I have compiled 30 different options for a date in El Salvador for you to choose from. I have divided them into six different categories and have added the price range (based on personal experience) and links to each of their social media profiles. Trust me; you can do so much better than dinner and a movie.
